Performs a range of contracted tasks requiring work at height.

• Industrial abseilers typically perform commercial and industrial maintenance but also perform other tasks such as: specialist welding services; sandblasting and painting services; inspection services; invasive weed services, bird proofing and hydro seeding.

• Works outdoors predominantly, but may carry out a range of indoor cleaning and general maintenance tasks (often in confined spaces).
• Issues of personal risk exist when working at heights and therefore employees must be well trained and qualified.
• Employees are significantly exposed to prevailing weather conditions when outdoors and often work cannot continue in unfavourable conditions (particularly wind). Protective clothing and safety equipment is always worn.
• Some work spaces may be dirty.

• Medium to heavy physical demand
• Stands and walks about the workplace when carrying out work tasks.
• Stretching, reaching across and climbing (ladders, steps and abseiling gear) movements will be frequently required for most position of this type
• Squatting, kneeling or crouching movements are likely to be frequently required.
• Bending is a frequent requirement.
• Twisting of the body or neck is occasionally to frequently required.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is frequently required.
• Lifting, pulling or carrying requirements will be frequently to constantly required for some tasks (high-rise window cleaning).
• Repetitive movements are constantly required for some tasks.
• Driving may be an occasional to frequent requirement.
• Use of hand tools will be a frequent to constant requirement for carrying out building maintenance.
• Mental activities necessary include communication, organisational and planning skills.

• An industrial ropes access course, at-height training, or a scaffolding or rigging qualification is necessary for workers who work at heights (ANZSCO Skill Level 4).

• There are few opportunities for flexibility of movement.
