Performs routine tasks in manufacturing clay and ceramic products.

• Loading clay into machines; stacking products on kiln cars, pallets and trolleys, and moving kiln cars and trolleys to and from kilns dryers, sorting, storage and shipping areas.

• Works indoors and outdoors in a processing plant.
• Work areas are likely to be noisy and dusty.
• Employees use a range of personal protective equipment including ear muffs and eye protection and gloves.

• The physical demand range is up to a very heavy level.
• Stands frequently at processing machines and may walk about the factory floor or the yard.
• Sitting is not required.
• Stretching up and across is necessary on a frequent basis.
• Squatting or crouching may be required on an occasional basis.
• Twisting the body or neck is likely to be required on a frequent basis.
• Bending is required on a frequent basis when handling raw materials and finished product.
• Employees constantly handle raw materials that may cause damage to skin or hands if protective clothing, such as gloves, is not worn.
• Frequently lifts and carries raw materials and finished product.
• Many tasks involve the repetitive use of hands and arms.
• Driving of forklifts and other loading equipment may be required (if so a licence will be necessary).
• Employees use a range of hand and power tools and machines.
• Mental skills necessary include practical and technical skills.

An NZQF Level 2 or 3 qualification, or at least one year of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 4).

For some occupations a short period of on-the-job training may be required in addition to or instead of the formal qualification.

• There are few opportunities for flexibility of movement.
