A Removal Packer goes to a house, office, or storage facility to professionally pack contents in preparation for moving to a new location (a.k.a. Pre-Removal Packer). In some instances they may also assist with unpacking at the new location.

Travels/navigates to the worksite; brings to site all of the required packing materials such as cardboard boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, scissors, tape, pens, and labels; discusses details of a move with the client or is briefed by a supervisor; may take an inventory of items and document any pre-existing marks or damage; wraps and packs contents to protect them from damage during the move; labels and stacks packed boxes or wrapped items ready for transportation; may travel/navigate to secondary worksite; opens and unpacks transported boxes or wrapped items; checks contents against inventory and for transportation damage; may stow contents as directed; removes all packaging materials from worksites.

• Employees work indoors generally in adequately heated and ventilated work spaces.
• Likely to work in a team.

• Typically medium physical demand but can be heavy work occasionally (site, equipment, and task dependent).
• Employees stand and walk frequently and may sit occasionally.
• Stretching, lifting, and carrying movements are likely to be frequent. Twisting of the body and neck is likely to be frequent. Squatting or crouching movements may be occasionally required when accessing or stowing contents stored down low. Climbing step-ladders or similar may be occasionally required to access or stow contents stored up high. Bending, squatting, or crouching is likely to be required on a frequent basis for any lifting tasks.
• Repetitive movements are likely to be required on a frequent to occasional basis, e.g. when wrapping contents and assembling and taping boxes.
• Use of hand-held tools is frequently required e.g. tape dispensers, scissors, and pens.
• Some roles may involve driving a vehicle to worksites.
• Mental skills necessary include: planning and organising (in particular keeping to deadlines); assessment and documentation of the condition of items packed; memory of wrapping and packing techniques; and counting and/or recording items packed.

• Nil (ANZSCO Skill Level 5). On-the-job training is likely to be all that is required for entry-level positions in this job. Previous packing or removals experience is advantageous for above-entry-level positions.
• A Class 1 Driver Licence for those roles involving driving a vehicle to worksites.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
