Erects and dismantles large sheets of plastic shrink wrap to protect construction worksites and workers from the elements and heights, and/or to contain dust or other materials onsite, or to protect or secure other objects such as statues or vehicles (e.g. boats, cars, planes).

Often makes use of existing scaffolding as a framework; lifts, unrolls, cuts, positions, and secures large sheets of plastic shrink wrap material over and around a structure or object; heat treats the shrink wrap sufficiently to maximise encapsulation; dismantles and removes shrink wrap from sites; and takes used shrink wrap to recycling or disposal facilities.

• Works outdoors predominantly.
• Works in most weather conditions other than high winds and heavy rain or similar.
• Frequently works at extreme heights and in precarious situations.
• If wrapping boats will work in a marine environment.
• Wears protective equipment such as safety harness, hard hat, and gloves.
• Worksites may be dusty and noisy.

• Heavy to very heavy physical demand levels.
• Stands frequently to assemble or disassemble shrink wrapping and walks about work areas to move materials.
• May sit while finely adjusting wrap or shrinking the wrap.
• Uses upper limbs and body to stretch up and across on a frequent basis in order to carry out lifting, moving, wrapping, shrinking, and dismantling tasks.
• Frequently climbs and works off high ladders and platforms or slings suspended from cranes.
• Occasionally squats, crouches, or kneels in order to carry out wrapping or unwrapping tasks. Bends frequently.
• Frequently twists body or neck when carrying out required tasks.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is not a significant component of the job.
• Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls plastic wrapping into place.
• Frequent repetitive hand and arm movements are required in order to carry out wrapping, securing, shrinking, or unwrapping tasks.
• Driving of vans, utes, and small trucks/cranes/scissor lifts may be required.
• Uses a range of hand-held equipment to cut, attach, shrink, and detach the plastic wrap.
• Mental skills necessary include practical, technical, and problem-solving skills.

• There are no entry requirements to work as an unqualified shrink wrapper working in a labouring capacity or as a trainee, as long as work is under the supervision of a qualified scaffolder or relevant specialist (ANZSCO Skill Level 4). To qualify to undertake the job without supervision employees must do an apprenticeship and achieve a National Certificate in Scaffolding, or other relevant qualification.
• For roles involving driving or lifting machine operation, appropriate licencing/certification is required.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
