Uses abrasive or grinding or polishing tools, equipment, and machinery on dry-cured concrete to repair damaged surfaces and level uneven joints, as well as smoothing, polishing, and finishing surfaces.

• Operating abrasive or grinding or polishing tools, equipment, and machinery on concrete to produce the required surface; sweeping and pulling a polisher repeatedly, controlling the speed and direction to gain the right finish; maintaining health and safety compliance; taking care of tools, equipment, and machinery; ensuring there are sufficient materials and PPE for the job at hand (such as shoes for polishers, disks for grinders, and eye, ear, and respiratory protection); moving between worksites; loading and unloading equipment; receiving and understanding task instructions and specifications (may be verbal/written/plans).
• The role may also include applying epoxy coatings by hand or via spray delivery equipment.

• Works in a wide variety of construction settings within buildings or outdoors, in all-weather conditions.
• Work sites may be dirty, dusty, and noisy, especially if part of a general construction site.
• Personal Protective Equipment will be used e.g. eye, ear, and respiratory protection.

• Medium to heavy physical demand levels.
• Stands and walks constantly to complete tasks and gather equipment and supplies.
• Sitting is not required unless operating a ride-on machine.
• Stretches both out and across on a frequent basis to carry out required tasks.
• May bend, squat, crouch, or kneel occasionally to frequently.

• Frequently lifts and carries.

• Nil (ANZSCO Skill Level 5) for an entry-level labourer/apprentice role. Previous concrete finishing experience, and/or a NZ Certificate (NZQF Level 3/4) in the relevant strands of concrete construction or flooring surface preparation, would facilitate entry to a higher-level role.
• For roles which involve driving, a Class 1 Driver Licence will be required. Some roles may involve the operation of lifting aides, e.g. a forklift, to move heavy equipment and will require appropriate training/certification/licensing.

There are few opportunities for flexibility of movement.
