Cleans swimming pools using cleaning equipment.

• Uses machinery and tools to clean pools, pipes and fixtures; applies acids and solvents to surfaces to remove stains and dirt; may clean pool exteriors; monitors water quality and removes debris; may use chemicals.

• Swimming pool technicians work outdoors
• Frequently works shifts either late at night or early morning when commercial pools are largely unoccupied.
• Protective clothing may be worn.
• Work spaces will vary considerably in level of maintenance and some may be very dirty.

• Light to medium physical demand
• Constantly stands and walks about the workspace.
• Stretching or reaching requirements will vary from worksite to worksite, but are likely to be frequent.
• Bending, squatting or crouching is likely to be frequent.
• Twisting of the body or neck is frequently required.
• Frequent contact with skin irritants or water is likely with the use of chemical cleaning products and water. Protective clothing may be worn.
• Light to medium lifting, pulling or carrying requirements will be frequent, these may include lifting and carrying cleaning equipment, pulling and pushing.
• Repetitive movements are frequently required.
• Driving is required when there are multiple worksites.
• Use of hand-held equipment will be frequent to constant.
• Mental skills necessary include communication, organisational, evaluating and planning skills.

An NZQF Level 1 qualification, or compulsory secondary education (ANZSCO Skill Level 5).

For some occupations a short period of on-the-job training may be required in addition to or instead of the formal qualification. In some instances no formal qualification or on-the-job training may be required.
