Ensures that parks and public gardens are in a tidy and clean state.

• Surveys park and public gardens to determine maintenance issues; performs lifting, carrying, stacking, shovelling, digging and similar tasks using simple hand tools or small mechanical equipment.

• Works outdoors predominantly.
• Works in all weathers and wears appropriate protective clothing as required.
• Carries out work in dirty, dusty or wet conditions and may also work in confined spaces, trenches and at heights.

• Up to very heavy physical demand levels.
• Constantly stands, walks and moves about the worksite as required. Does not usually sit unless riding in a vehicle or when weather conditions are too adverse to work.
• Stretching up or across is occasional to frequent requirement, depending upon the specific work tasks being undertaken.
• Squatting or crouching movements are occasionally required.
• Twisting of the body or neck is an occasional to frequent requirement depending upon the specific work tasks being undertaken.
• Contact with skin irritants or water will be occasional given the varied tasks and likely physical contact with a wide range of physical substances and materials.
• Lifting, carrying, pulling or pushing is frequently to constantly required.
• Climbing ladders or steps with loads is a frequent requirement.
• Repetitive movements are a frequent requirement for many tasks such as shovelling.
• Driving of trucks or other vehicles may be required.
• Uses a wide range of hand tools - simple, mechanical and electrically driven.
• Bending is a frequent requirement, especially where lifting is required.
• Mental skills necessary include practical and organisational skills.

An NZQF Level 1 qualification, or compulsory secondary education (ANZSCO Skill Level 5).

For some occupations a short period of on-the-job training may be required in addition to or instead of the formal qualification. In some instances no formal qualification or on-the-job training may be required.

For roles involving driving then relevant licensing will be required.
