Drives a bus to transport passengers short distances on scheduled intra-city services over established routes.

Stops at set locations to pick up and set down passengers; opens and closes doors before and after passengers board or alight; controls lighting, heating and ventilation on buses; advises passengers on destinations; collects fares, giving change and tickets; maintains conduct of passengers; may use public address systems to provide information to passengers; may assist coach passengers with baggage such as pushchairs; may maintain, service and clean coaches.

• Works inside coach in vehicle driver’s seat.
• Works in all weather and traffic conditions.
• Worksite (coaches) will generally be adequately heated and ventilated.

• Driving is frequently to constantly required.
• Drivers sit in a driving seat frequently to constantly and occasionally walk to assist passengers to load baggage or other goods into and out of the vehicle.
• Climbs up steps to enter and to exit vehicle cab.
• Uses upper limbs, feet and body to stretch down and across to operate controls.
• Twists body and/or neck and uses mirrors to observe what is happening behind them and when reversing vehicle.
• Frequent repetitive hand, arm and leg/foot movements are required for operation of vehicle controls.
• Squatting, crouching, bending or kneeling may be required occasionally for loading baggage and minor maintenance work.
• Lifts and carries when role involves loading and unloading of baggage.
• Occasionally uses hand tools or equipment to repair, maintain or clean vehicle.
• Significant contact with water or skin irritants is not required.
• Mental skills necessary include concentration and decision-making, fare handling and verbal communication skills.

A Class 2 (full) or Class 4 (full) Driver’s Licence (depending on the size of bus to be driven) and a Passenger (P) Endorsement (ANZSCO Skill Level 4).

Obtaining a P Endorsement involves: having held a (full) Class 1 Driver’s Licence for at least two years and passed within the last five years (or a re-sit of the practical is required); passing a medical exam, including an eyesight test; passing a course that shows understanding of the law relating to passengers and drivers; and a 'fit and proper person' background check.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.

Employees may be required to work shifts.
