Drives a light vehicle (car or van) to transport passengers to destinations on a fee-for-service basis.

Stops at requested locations to pick up and set down passengers and their baggage; collects fares and gives change; controls lighting, heating and ventilation for passenger comfort; observes prescribed speeds, nearby traffic, travelling conditions and signals to ensure safe arrival of passengers; ensures passengers arrive at destinations on time.

• Works in a car or van constantly. Worksites (vehicles) will generally be adequately heated and ventilated.
• Works in all weather and traffic conditions.

• Sedentary to medium physical demand
• Driving is frequently to constantly required.
• Drivers sit in a driving seat frequently to constantly and occasionally walk to assist passengers and load baggage or other goods into and out of the vehicle.
• Use the upper limbs, feet and body to stretch down and across to operate controls.
• Frequent repetitive hand, arm and leg/foot movements are required for the operation of vehicle controls.
• Squatting, crouching or kneeling is not a significant feature of the job but can occur if for instance a flat tyre needs to be attended to.
• Drivers twist their body or neck and use mirrors frequently to observe vehicles that are following or when reversing.
• Bends occasionally to facilitate baggage handling.
• Hand tools or equipment may be used when maintaining or cleaning the work vehicle.
• Significant contact with water or skin irritants does not occur.
• Mental skills necessary include location and route finding, concentration and decision-making, and verbal communication skills.

• A Class 1 (Full) Driver Licence, a Passenger (P) Endorsement and English language ability (verbal and written) deemed adequate by the New Zealand Transport Agency (ANZSCO Skill Level 4).
• Obtaining a P Endorsement involves: having held a Class 1 (Full) Driver Licence for at least two years and passed within the last five years (or a re-sit of the practical is required); passing a medical exam, including an eyesight test; passing a course that shows understanding of the law relating to passengers and drivers; and a 'fit and proper person' background check.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
• Shift work is common.
