Operates machines to bleach, dye and finish knitted garments such as hosiery and woollen garments.

• Prepares machines for operation by selecting and installing attachments and components for specialised functions; sets and operates controls used to regulate processing operations; starts machines and monitors operation to detect faults and ensure effectiveness of operation; loads drums with textiles and dye; examines finished products for defects and variations.

• Works indoors in a dry-cleaning outlet and/or textile production factory.
• The work area will usually be adequately heated and ventilated, but may be warm and steamy.
• Constantly handles clothing, linen or textiles items and uses chemical products.
• Protective clothing may be utilised at times.

• Medium to heavy work demand levels.
• Frequently stands on factory floors which are usually concrete and may walk about the factory floor to carry out sorting, racking and other tasks while waiting for bleaching and dyeing solutions to complete their actions.
• Stretches up and across on an occasional basis when loading items into solution baths or hanging items up to cure.
• Squatting, crouching and/or kneeling may be required occasionally.
• Twisting of the body or neck may be required occasionally.
• Constant handling of chemical products and clothing or textile items may require protective clothing (gloves/overalls) to be worn.
• Employees frequently lift and carry quantities of both wet and dry clothing/textile items for immersion into chemicals solution or rinsing baths.
• Bends on a frequent basis, usually associated with picking up items.
• Many tasks require the repetitive use of hands and arms for carrying, lifting and loading or unloading
• Driving is not required.
• Use is made of a range of hand tools to agitate and mix chemicals.
• Mental skills necessary include knowledge of garment/textile care, practical and technical skills.

An NZQF Level 4 qualification, or at least three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 3).

In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.

For entry-level positions on-the-job training may be sufficient.
