• A green end supervisor oversees and coordinates activities of operators engaged in peeling veneer strips from logs and clipping veneer strips into sheets of specified sizes

• Wood processing machine supervisors: oversee and coordinate activities of wood processing machine operators who operate machines that strip and prepare logs, remove bark, cut logs and timber, create wood chips, and cut, glue, press, trim, sand, splice, mould and repair wooden boards of various grades, forms, and combinations; direct operators to adjust machines when work does not conform to specifications; and train new workers in the operation of machines.
• Green end supervisors: oversee and coordinate activities of operators; analyse work orders to determine quantities, dimensions, and quality of finished plywood panels required by customers; compute initial log and veneer requirements for each order allowing for shrinkage, trim work, and waste during processing; inspect peeled and clipped veneer for dimensional accuracy and to determine maximum amount of usable veneer is obtained, using a ruler, dial thickness gauge, and tape measure; direct operators to adjust machines when work does not conform to specifications; may supervise operators engaged in drying veneer sheets; and train new workers in the operation of machines.

Works indoors in wood processing plants or outdoors in timber yards; works in noisy and dusty situations; wears appropriate protective clothing and equipment including aprons, gloves, earmuffs, safety glasses, and steel-capped boots. Oversees work with rough sawn timber and sharp cutting blades and may occasionally be required to demonstrate the use of machines/equipment.

• Light to medium work demand levels (depends on the mix of supervision to hands-on work). Stands frequently when observing and supervising operators doing work tasks. Frequently walks about the work site to supervise, train, and monitor progress. May occasionally sit at a desk to do related administration and computing.
• Occasionally stretches out and across. Squatting, crouching or kneeling is not a significant requirement. Twisting the body or neck is unlikely to be required. Lifting and carrying is occasionally to seldom required. Bending is occasionally required.
• Constant repetitive hand and arm movements are not required.
• Driving is not required for processing roles.
• Mental skills necessary include communication, computing, record-keeping, and analytical skills with knowledge of the technology and processes used.

At least five years of practical experience in the relevant type of wood processing machine operation (ANZSCO Skill Level 4). Literate and numerate and computer literate. A good knowledge of the technology and processes used and aptitude for training and supervising workers and managing workflow will be required.
