Fills fuel tanks and containers to level specified by customer; checks and replenishes air pressure in vehicle tyres, and oil and other vehicle fluid levels; washes vehicle windscreens and windows; performs minor repair work to vehicles such as replacing tyres, light bulbs and windscreen wiper blades; maintains and operates automatic car wash facilities; collects payments from customers for purchases; cleans petrol pumps and surrounding driveway, shop and facilities; undertakes stock control and prepares reports on fuel, oil, accessories and other items sold; replenishes stock of fast foods, newspapers, magazines and grocery items.

• Indoors and outdoors in approximately equal proportions for the period employed.
• Employees work rostered shifts and rotate duties between serving on the forecourt and at the service counter when more than one worker is on duty.
• Usually staff work in adequately heated and ventilated spaces when indoors, but are significantly exposed to the prevailing weather conditions when on the forecourt.
• Elements of personal risk exist as security issues associated with these positions are present to a greater extend than with most other sales roles.

• Sedentary to light work demand level. Some staff may occasionally perform medium lifting tasks.
• Frequently stands at sales counters or walks about the workspace.
• Manually or electronically enters customer purchases into the till, receives cash, cheques, eftpos and credit card payments and processes these and issues receipts. May issue customers sales invoices.
• Lifts and passes items purchased across the scanner. Lifting, pulling or carrying, squatting, crouching or bending and stretching and reaching across will occasionally be required.
• Contact with skin irritants (petrol) is likely to some extent in the general course of this work.
• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant component of the job.
• Frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are necessary for operating electronic tills and petrol pumps.
• Driving is not a significant component of the job.
• Use of hand tools, hand-held objects and equipment will include pens, cash registers, eftpos terminals, petrol pumps and other common items of service station equipment.
• Mental skills necessary include communication, memory, recording and calculating skills.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement.
