Sells plumbing supplies in a retail or wholesale establishment.

Determines customer requirements and advises on product range, price, delivery, warranties and product use and care; demonstrates and explains to customers the establishment's goods and services; sells goods and services; accepts payment for goods and services by a variety of payment methods and prepares sales invoices; assists with the ongoing management of stock such as product inventories and participates in stocktakes; stacks and displays goods for sale, and wraps and packs goods sold.

• Predominantly will be located in a large warehouse type facility.
• Workspaces will usually be adequately heated, ventilated, tidy and well organised.

• Sedentary to very heavy work.
• Frequently stands at sales counters or in sales yards, walks about the establishment to assist customers and locate merchandise. May sit occasionally on high stools.
• Manually or electronically enters customer purchases into tills, receives cash, cheques, eftpos and credit card payments and processes these and issues receipts.
• Stretching and or twisting movements may be required occasionally when reaching up or down to collect products.
• Lifting, pulling or carrying requirements will be frequent and may be occasionally up to a very heavy demand level due to the nature of the products.
• Bending, squatting or crouching movements are likely on an occasional to frequent basis.
• Repetitive hand and finger movements are necessary on an occasional basis for operating electronic tills and for tasks such as sorting and sawing.
• Driving of forklifts or other mobile lifting equipment may be required (in which case a license may be necessary).
• Use of hand and cutting tools will be occasionally needed.
• Mental skills necessary include communication, memory, recording and calculating skills

An NZQF Level 1 qualification, or compulsory secondary education (ANZSCO Skill Level 5).

For some occupations a short period of on-the-job training may be required in addition to or instead of the formal qualification. In some instances no formal qualification or on-the-job training may be required.
