Monitors the allocation and use of water from water resources such as streams, rivers and underground sources.

Receives and assesses applications for licences to use water, investigates the ability of water resources to meet new requirements, and conducts site inspections.

• Employees work indoors in offices and outdoors at on site venues and at waterways.
• Indoor workspaces are generally adequately heated and ventilated.
• May be required to work in all weather conditions when outside.

• The physical work demand is sedentary to light.
• Sitting is constant when assessing documents and carrying out other administration tasks.
• Standing and walking is frequently required to go into the community to perform inspections.
• Stretching up and reaching across may be required occasionally but is not a significant component of this job.
• Bending squatting, crouching and kneeling is may be required occasionally but is not a significant component of this job.
• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant component of this job.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is not a significant component of this job.
• Lifting, carrying and pulling is not a significant component of this job.
• Repetitive movements with the hands is occasionally required because of the need to use a computer.
• Driving is likely to be needed for site visits and liaison with contacts in the community.
• Use of hand-held objects/equipment will include computers, printers, photocopiers, telephones and other general office equipment.
• Mental skills include analytical/investigative, problem solving, computing/report writing, knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, decision-making and communication skills.

A New Zealand Register Level 2 or 3 qualification or at least one year of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 4). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required. For entry-level positions on-the-job training is sufficient.
