Inspects and monitors plants, land and water for noxious plants and animal species, and organises for their control or eradication.

Identifies pest and weed problems and determines treatment and management.

• Employees work indoors in an office when writing reports or updating client records, but predominantly work outdoors when making site inspections.
• Work occurs in adequately heated and ventilated office spaces, but there is a requirement to inspect a wide variety of outdoor sites and properties where appropriate clothing/protective clothing or equipment is necessary.
• Work may occur in some investigation or enforcement situations.

• The physical work demand is light to medium.
• Standing and walking is frequent when on-site.
• Stretching up and reaching across may be required when carrying out some inspections, for example when checking roof areas.
• Bending squatting, crouching and kneeling is occasionally required as is climbing to facilitate inspections of certain areas.
• Twisting of the body or neck may be required occasionally.
• Contact with skin irritants or water may occur as a result of the inspection process.
• Lifting, carrying and pulling will occur up to a medium physical demand level.
• Repetitive movements with hands are occasionally required when operating a computer.
• Driving is required frequently for site visits.
• Use of hand-held tools, equipment and power tools will include computers and other record-keeping/office equipment and for some roles cameras and other electronic recording equipment.
• Mental skills include animal and plant pest knowledge, analytical/investigative, problem solving, computing/report writing and knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, decision-making and communication skills.

A New Zealand Register Level 2 or 3 qualification or at least one year of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 4). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required. For entry-level positions on-the-job training is sufficient.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
