Tests applicants' ability to operate a motor vehicle assesses applicants' suitability to hold learner's permits and probationary licences, and issues learner's permits and probationary licences.

• Employees work indoors in cars, offices and classroom type situations.
• Work occurs in adequately heated and ventilated spaces.

• The physical work demand is light.
• Standing and walking is occasionally required.
• Sitting in motor vehicles is constantly required when administering practical driving tests.
• Stretching up and reaching across is not a significant component of this job.
• Bending squatting, crouching and kneeling is not a significant component of this job.
• Twisting of the body or neck may be required occasionally when observing students and traffic movements.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is not a significant component of this job.
• Lifting, carrying and pulling requirements are not significant.
• Repetitive movements with arms and hands are occasionally required when operating a computer, writing or driving a motor vehicle.
• Driving is required frequently.
• Use of hand-held objects/equipment will include general office equipment.
• Mental skills include knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, analysis, decision-making and communication skills.

• A New Zealand Register Level 2 or 3 qualification or at least one year of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 4). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
• Registration or licensing is required.
