Officiates at sporting events, such as netball, hockey, football, basketball, cricket, boxing and wrestling matches, by interpreting and enforcing match rules.

Officiates at sporting events to enforce rules; coordinates and directs sporting activities, and liaises with other officials to interpret and enforce rules and regulations relating to sport.

• Employees work outside or indoors as the sport requires.
• Employees work outdoors only when the weather does not impinge on the safety of participants.
• Utilises protective equipment as required.

• Light to medium and occasionally heavy physical demand.
• Employees frequently sit, stand or move about the work area to officiate over sporting events and to enforce the rules and regulations of the game being played.
• Stretching or reaching may be required in the form of hand signals.
• Squatting or crouching is likely to be required occasionally.
• Contact water or other skin irritants is unlikely to be a significant requirement of this role unless the sport is water-based.
• Twisting of the body or neck is likely to be required frequently to observe what is occurring within the game.
• Lifting, pulling or carrying is unlikely to be a significant requirement of this role.
• Bending is likely to be required occasionally.
• Repetitive movements are likely to be required depending on the nature of the sport.
• Use of hand tools will include relevant sporting equipment and general office equipment.
• Mental skills necessary include knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and rules of the sport involved, communication and organisational skills.

A New Zealand Register Level 4 qualification or at least three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 3). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required. For entry-level positions on-the-job training is sufficient.

Registration or licensing is required.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
