Officiates at sporting events to enforce rules; co-ordinates and directs sporting activities, and liaises with other officials to interpret and enforce rules and regulations relating to sport.

• Employees work predominantly outside at horse or dog racing tracks and facilities. May also work in indoor areas such as weighing rooms and offices.
• Works outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Indoor work areas are generally adequately heated and ventilated. Work areas may be noisy and smelly because of working around animals.

• Sedentary to light physical demand.
• Employees frequently sit, stand or move about the work area to co-ordinate and direct sporting activities and when enforcing rules and regulations.
• Stretching or reaching is not a significant component of the job.
• Squatting or crouching is not a significant component of the job.
• Contact water or other skin irritants is not a significant requirement of the job.
• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant component of the job.
• Light lifting, pulling or carrying is likely to be occasionally requirement when collecting and moving equipment.
• Bending is not a significant requirement of the job.
• Repetitive movements are necessary occasionally to use of computers to enter data.
• There is occasional use of hand-held objects and equipment such as general office equipment.
• Mental skills necessary include knowledge of horse and dog racing rules and regulations, communication, analysis and decision-making and organisational skills.

• A New Zealand Register Level 4 qualification or at least three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 3). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required. For entry-level positions on-the-job training is sufficient.
• Registration or licensing is required.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
