This occupation group covers outdoor adventure guides not elsewhere classified. Occupations in this group are, caving guide, cycle tour guide and sea kayaking guide.

Meets members of a tour on arrival and makes introductions; organises and supervises groups involved in a range of outdoor adventures; sets up and maintains equipment, and ensures that equipment is safe and in working condition; demonstrates and provides instruction in the use of equipment and techniques required for participation; provides advice on safety measures, and ensures that activities are conducted in a manner to minimise risk to participants; responds to emergencies by providing first aid assistance and takes appropriate further action if required; answers questions and advises on local interest points within a specific region; may maintain written reports of daily activities and carry out other administrative work.

• Employees predominantly work outside, frequently in remote areas.
• Works only when the weather does not impinge on the safety of the event.
• May work in conditions that involve small spaces, being on the water for long periods of time or working with horses.
• Utilises protective equipment as required.

• Light to very heavy physical demand.
• Employees frequently stand or move and may sit when doing administrative tasks.
• Stretching or reaching is likely to be required when setting up equipment, kayaking or riding a horse.
• Squatting or crouching is likely to be frequently required, when checking on participants, setting up and inspecting equipment.
• Contact with water is likely to be occasional to constant but contact with skin irritants not a significant requirement.
• Twisting of the body or neck is likely to be required occasionally to supervise group participants and participate in the adventure activity.
• Lifting, pulling or carrying is likely frequent when collecting and moving equipment.
• Bending will be occasionally required.
• Repetitive movements are likely depending on the nature of the adventure activity.
• Use of hand tools and hand-held objects will be occasional to frequent and will involve office equipment and equipment specific to the adventure activity (e.g. paddles).
• Mental skills necessary include analysis, decision-making, communication and organisation.

An NZQF Level 4 qualification, or at least three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)

In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
