Answers inquires and directs and guides visitors in a gallery or museum.

Meets and greets visitors; controls visitors' access to exhibits; plans, organises and conducts tours; arranges entry to places of interest; answers questions, provides commentaries, issues brochures and tour literature, shows audiovisual presentations, and explains components and procedures at tour sites; may assist with installing and dismantling exhibits.

• Employees work either indoors in art galleries or museums.
• Work spaces are generally adequately heated, ventilated and welcoming to visitors.

• Employees frequently stand and walk to greet visitors and direct them around exhibits.
• Stretching and reaching is not a significant component of this job.
• Climbing of steps may be required depending on whether the gallery or museum is over more than one floor.
• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant component of this job, although it may be occasionally required when supervising tour groups in some environments.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is not a significant component of the job.
• Lifting, pulling or carrying is likely to be necessary on an occasional basis but is unlikely to exceed a light physical demand.
• Bending squatting or crouching movements may occur occasionally.
• Repetitive arm, hand and finger movements are not a significant component of the job.
• Use of hand-held objects such as pens and microphones will be occasional.
• Mental skills necessary include communication, planning, organisational and practical skills.

A New Zealand Register Level 2 or 3 qualification or at least one year of relevant experience. In some instances relevant experience may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 4). For entry-level positions on-the-job training may be sufficient.
