Cleans and maintains public areas in a bar, club or dining establishment by collecting and returning dishes, cutlery and glasses to the kitchen or bar, wiping tables, bars and spillages, and emptying bins and ashtrays.

Prepares service areas by cleaning and laying tables; removes used plates, cutlery and glassware from tables, wipes up bar areas and tables; empties rubbish containers and ashtrays; washes up spills or sweeps up broken glass.

• Works inside, usually in hotels, clubs, pubs, taverns, restaurants or cafés.
• Work spaces are generally adequately heated and ventilated but may be frequently noisy.

• Medium physical demand level.
• Employees stand or walk constantly about the service area cleaning and clearing tables.
• Sitting is not required.
• Stretching is occasionally required when carrying out a variety of cleaning tasks
• Squatting or crouching may be necessary when unloading dishwashers or wiping up spills.
• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant feature of this job.
• Medium lifting, pulling or carrying will be required, when cleaning or clearing plates away.
• Bending is occasionally required when picking items up.
• Repetitive movements are occasionally required.
• Use of hand-held objects will include a variety of cleaning products such as cloths, mops and cleaning equipment.
• Mental skills necessary include communication and organisational skills.

Nil (ANZSCO Skill Level 5).

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
• Shift work is commonly required.
