• Provides wheelchair modification services to clients who use wheelchairs.
• Provides advice and direction to patients on the use of wheelchairs and wheelchair modification services to clients who use wheelchairs.

Receive and screen referrals for wheelchair alterations; evaluate functional performance of wheelchairs and seating through observation and interaction with patients; conducts tests to determine if equipment is functioning to specification; design and/or construct and/or modify wheelchairs to meet clients’ needs according to referring therapist’s guidelines.

• Most frequently indoors in a health setting but may occasionally work outdoors;
• Visits clients at home.

• The physical demand is light to medium.
• Standing and walking may be frequently required (or for employees restricted to a wheelchair, manoeuvring the wheelchair will be necessary). Sitting is not required but occurs occasionally when completing paperwork.
• Stretching up and across is occasionally required and squatting, crouching, kneeling down and bending is frequently necessary especially when modifying wheelchairs (unless an adjustable height bench is available to eliminate the necessity for squatting, kneeling, crouching, bending and stretching up and across).
• Climbing is not required.
• Twisting of the body or neck is occasionally required.
• Lifting and carrying materials, tools and equipment is frequently required.
• Repetitive movements are occasionally required especially in the use of hands and arms when modifying wheelchairs.
• Driving to visit patients may be frequently required.
• Employees frequently use a range of hand and power tools.
• Mental skills necessary include practical, evaluation, problem-solving, communication and organisation skills.

There are no prerequisite qualifications for this ANZSCO Skill Level 3 role.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
