Assists photographers in taking and developing photographs.

Assists qualified photographers in photo shoots; sets up studio for shoots; arranges cameras and film; organises lighting and other photographic equipment; locates props for photo shoots; takes photos; develops and print photos; scans photos into a computer; edits and formats pictures and saves them to disk; may mount photographs and set up exhibits.

• Works indoors in photographic studios, may work outdoors occasionally when out on photo shoots.
• Will usually work in adequately heated and ventilated spaces, though if working outdoors may be required to work in cold, wet, dirty or hot conditions.

• The physical work demand is light to medium.
• Standing and walking is frequent when walking around photo studios or when out on shoots.
• Stretching and/or twisting movements are likely to be required occasionally when setting up lights or posing models.
• Lifting, pulling or carrying is frequently required to organise cameras and lighting equipment.
• Repetitive hand and finger movements are frequently required to operate cameras and computers.
• Driving is likely to be occasionally required to facilitate location shoots.
• Office and hand tools are used frequently including cameras, lighting equipment, photographic development equipment and computers.
• Bending, squatting or crouching movements may be required.
• Mental skills necessary include practical, photographic, visual, communication, sales and organisational skills.

An NZQF Level 2 or 3 qualification, or at least one year of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 4). In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. Registration or licensing may be required. For entry-level positions on-the-job training may be sufficient.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
