Cuts out and assembles mouldings to make picture frames, and frames paintings, photographs, needlework and other artwork.

Fits and fastens frame pieces; mounts backing materials and subjects for framing.

• Works indoors in workrooms, workshops.
• The work area will usually be adequately heated and ventilated and have large open work spaces.
• Work spaces may be smelly, messy and dusty.

• Physical demand is light to medium.
• Standing is frequently to constantly required.
• Walking is frequently required to collect and move materials and equipment.
• Sitting is frequently required at work benches.
• Stretching out and across is occasionally required to mark out and attach backing material.
• Squatting, crouching or kneeling is not a significant component of the job.
• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant component of the job.
• Contact with skin irritants is possible through the use of adhesives.
• Lifting and carrying is occasionally to frequently required when carrying framed pictures or collecting supplies, but is unlikely to exceed medium physical demand levels.
• Pulling and pushing is frequently required to get backing materials in place.
• Bending is frequently required when working at benches·
• Repetitive movements of the hands and arms for tasks such as tacking, sawing and hammering are constantly required.
• Driving is not required.
• Employees frequently to constantly use a range of hand and electric tools including measuring equipment, cutting equipment, staple guns, tacks, hammers and a variety of other hand tools.
• Mental skills necessary include practical skills as well as problem-solving, design and organisational skills and an eye for detail and colour.

A New Zealand Register Level 4 qualification or at least three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 3). In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. For entry-level positions on-the-job training may be sufficient.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
