Maintains, adjusts and repairs computers, photocopiers, fax machines, cash registers and other electronic commercial and office machines.

Examines and tests machines, equipment, instruments and control systems to diagnose faults; adjusts, repairs, replaces worn and defective parts and wiring, and maintains machines, equipment and instruments, advises users of correct operating procedures to prevent malfunction.

• Works indoors in workshop areas for electronics companies and may undertake repairs at private homes and businesses.
• Work sites are likely to be adequately heated and ventilated.

• The physical demand level is in the light to medium range.
• Standing or sitting is frequently required at a workbench.
• Walking is occasionally required when gathering equipment or tools.
• Stretching up and across may be occasionally required when undertaking repair work.
• Squatting, crouching, kneeling or bending is likely to be required when undertaking repairs or when working at benches.
• Twisting of the body or neck is unlikely to be a significant element of this job.
• Lifting and carrying or moving of tools and part about the workshop or worksite is frequently required.
• Repetitive movements are frequently required especially in the use of hands and arms for the operation of a variety of hand tools including screwdrivers and pliers.
• Driving may be required to facilitate visit to client’s homes or businesses.
• Employees regularly use a wide range of hand, power and machine tools including screwdrivers, cable cutters and jointers, electric/hand drills, circuit testing meters and other minor equipment.
• Mental skills necessary will include technical and problem-solving skills.

A New Zealand Register Level 4 qualification or at least three years of relevant experience. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 3). For entry-level positions on-the-job training may be sufficient.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
