Oversees staff who install, maintain and repair flashings, metallic roof and wall claddings and rainwater products such as gutters and downpipes.

Studies drawings and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems and materials required; supervising, monitoring and training staff; fabricating and installing metal roofing, rainwater goods and flashings.

• Works predominantly outdoors on buildings under construction or repair.
• May work indoors when inspecting and studying drawings
• Works in most weather conditions other than high winds, heavy rain or similar.
• Works at height and frequently on steep sloping roofs and on ladders or scaffolding.
• Wears protective safety harness and other equipment (e.g. hard hats) when required.

• Medium to heavy work.
• Stands and climbs frequently, often on ladders, scaffolding or sloping roofs.
• Frequently walks about the work area to move equipment and materials.
• Does not sit for long other than when travelling to work sites.
• Uses upper limbs and body to stretch up and across on an occasional to frequent basis in order to carry out placement and fixing tasks and to remove or get roofing materials onto roof area.
• Occasionally bends, squats, crouches or kneels in order to carry out fixing tasks.
• Occasionally required to twist the body or neck.
• Frequent to constant work with steel roofing and other roofing materials and these may cut or bruise the skin.
• There is occasional to frequent lifting and carrying materials and equipment.
• Constant repetitive hand and arm movements are required when holding and fixing many types of roofing materials.
• Driving is required when moving to and between work-sites.
• Employees use a range of hand and power equipment to carry out work tasks.
• Mental skills necessary include supervision, planning, problem-solving and practical skills.

• An NZQF Level 4 qualification or at least three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 3). In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. For entry-level positions on-the-job training may be sufficient.
• Registration or licensing is required.
• If not a Registered Plumber - Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) licencing is required in order to undertake or supervise Restricted Building Work, unless supervised by another LBP.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
