Inscribes letters, figures and designs on metal, glass, wood, rubber, plastic and other surfaces.

Inscribes letters, figures and designs on surfaces of jewellery, trophies and other ornamental items.

• Works predominantly indoors in trophy, jewellery and specialist engraving stores and workshops. Works outdoors as required to engrave headstones and other outdoor statues and markers.
• May work in conditions which are noisy and/or dirty.
• Employees may work from a mobile workshop in a van.

• The physical demand is light to medium.
• Standing is occasionally required.
• Sitting is occasionally required when undertaking precision work on small items such as jewellery.
• Walking about the worksite is frequently required to gather equipment.
• Stretching up or across is not a significant component of the job.
• Squatting, crouching and/or kneeling is occasionally required when working on headstones or similar objects.
• Bending is frequently required when working at benches.
• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant component of the job.
• Lifting, carrying or moving items is frequently required but will typically be of a light physical demand.
• Repetitive movements of the hands are required constantly for engraving.
• Driving may be required, but is unlikely to be significant component of the job.
• Employees are required to use a range of hand and small power tools to facilitate the engraving of objects.
• Mental skills necessary include practical, technical and problem-solving skills.

A New Zealand Register Level 4 qualification or at least three years of relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 3). In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. For entry-level positions on-the-job training may be sufficient.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
