Installs, maintains, repairs and diagnoses malfunctions of microwave, telemetry, multiplexing, satellite and other radio and electromagnetic wave communication systems.

Installs, maintains, repairs and diagnoses malfunctions of microwave, telemetry, satellite and other radio and electromagnetic communication systems; liaises with vendors, suppliers, service providers and external resources and monitors contractual obligations and performance delivery.

• Works indoors predominantly in workshops, offices and other sites where radio communications equipment is being installed, repaired or maintained. May also work outdoors on wiring and satellite systems or in ceilings and other confined spaces.
• Works in all weather conditions when outdoors and for significant periods of time on a variety of installation, repair and maintenance worksites. Will wear appropriate protective clothing and footwear and will be aware of electrical hazards arising with any equipment connected to electricity.

• The physical demand for this job is light to medium.

• Standing and walking are constantly required. Sitting is occasionally required.

• Stretching and reaching across is likely to be an occasional to frequent requirement of the job. Employees may also need to climb ladders or poles.
• Bending, squatting, and crouching or kneeling, will be occasionally required. Twisting of the body or neck is likely to be occasionally required.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is unlikely.
• Lifting, pulling, and carrying is unlikely to exceed a medium physical demand level.
• Repetitive movements are likely to be frequent, and relate to the use of hand tools, and occasional use of computers for data entry and reporting.
• Use of hand tools/hand-held objects and power tools will include a variety of testing and computer equipment, as well as items such as screwdrivers.
• Driving of vehicles is likely to be occasional to facilitate travel to worksites.
• Mental skills necessary include technical, mathematical, computing and problem-solving skills.

A New Zealand Register Level 5 or 6 qualification or at least three years relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 2). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
