Prepares drawings, plans and diagrams of electrical installations and circuitry; assists electrical engineers and engineering technologists in design and layout of electrical installations and circuitry on substations, switchgear, cabling systems and motor control systems.

• Works indoors in electrical design and laboratory situations.
• Work areas are adequately heated and ventilated.

• The physical demand for this job is light.
• Standing and walking is required but is not a significant component of this job.
• Sitting is frequently required when working at drafting boards, desks and computers.
• Stretching and reaching across is an occasional requirement.
• Bending, squatting, and crouching or kneeling, is not a significant component of the job.
• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant component of the job.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is not required.
• Lifting, pulling, and carrying are unlikely to exceed the light physical demand level.
• Repetitive movements are frequent when drawing, writing or operating a computer.
• Use of hand tools/hand-held objects will include electrical tools, and testing equipment for voltage or signal-measurement, as well as computer-assisted design software and writing and drawing instruments.
• Driving will be required for site visits but is not a significant component of the job.
• Mental skills necessary include technical, drawing, computing and problem-solving skills.

• A New Zealand Register Level 5 or 6 qualification or at least three years relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 2). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
• Registrations or licensing may be required.
