Prepares and delivers estimates and cost plans for engineering construction projects up to the tender settlement stage.

Assists construction/engineering managers, architects and surveyors in planning and organisation; interprets plans, regulations and codes of practice; calculates costs and estimates time scales.

• Works inside, in office situations predominantly.
• Spends time outdoors visiting work sites to check on construction progress and quantities of materials utilised.
• Office work spaces are generally adequately heated and ventilated.
• Wears appropriate protective clothing and footwear when in dangerous situations.

• Light physical demand level.
• Standing and walking is frequently required when making site visits and it may also be necessary to be able to climb about unfinished structures on ladders or scaffold.
• Sitting is frequently required at an office desk or computer workstation, to enter data, complete calculations, and reports.
• Stretching and reaching across is an unlikely requirement unless necessary for on-site measurement.
• Bending, squatting, crouching or kneeling is rarely necessary.
• Twisting of the body or neck is unlikely to be necessary.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is not a significant component of the role.
• Lifting, pulling, or carrying is unlikely to exceed the light demand level.
• Repetitive movements are frequent for data access and report writing via computer.
• Driving of vehicles is likely to be required occasionally for worksite visits.
• Use of hand tools/hand-held objects includes occasional to frequent use of office equipment such as computers and measuring tools (e.g. tape measures).
• Mental skills necessary include evaluation, calculation, organisational and both oral and writing.

A New Zealand Register Level 5 or 6 qualification or at least three years relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 2). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
