Prepares experiments and demonstrations, makes up solutions, prepares slides, orders books and equipment, and tidies up laboratories in support of teaching chemistry, earth sciences, life sciences and physical sciences.

• Works inside in laboratory situations predominantly at schools or other educational facilities.
• Work spaces are generally adequately heated and ventilated.
• Likely to work with some chemicals and biological organisms as part of laboratory work. Will wear safety clothing and utilise safe-handling equipment and processes.

• Physical demand is light.
• Standing and walking is frequently required when setting up experiments.
• Sitting is unlikely to be required.
• Stretching and reaching across may be required when setting up lab equipment.
• Bending, squatting, crouching or kneeling may be occasionally required but is not a significant component of the role.
• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant component of the role.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is frequent (mitigated by use of protective equipment).
• Lifting, pulling or carrying is unlikely to exceed the light demand level in most situations.
• Repetitive movements are occasionally required when setting up experiments and demonstrations.
• Driving of vehicles is not required.
• Use of hand tools/hand-held objects including laboratory equipment such as scientific measuring equipment, microscopes, bunsen burners, writing instruments and computers is likely to be frequent.
• Mental skills include technical, organisational, problem-solving and communication skills.

A New Zealand Register Level 5 or 6 qualification or at least three years relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 2). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
