Ensures compliance with regulatory quality standards and specifications in all aspects of product development.

Inspects animals, plants and agricultural produce to identify product quality issues and provide advice to producers; audits and monitors quality procedures at farms, food handling and processing facilities to ensure compliance with required standards; tests samples of produce for quality, size and purity; ensure that required standards of hygiene are observed at storage, processing and packing facilities and in transport vehicles; advises primary producers on economic aspects of disease eradication and informs producers and the general public of the health implication of disease and impurities.

• Works indoors in an office situation. Is usually associated with manufacturing or processing operations.
• Usually works in adequately heated and ventilated offices as base but inspects a wide variety of goods, services and products at various stages of production/delivery process. Appropriate protective clothing or equipment, for work environment and tasks will be required (e.g. noise protection, dust protection or to meet food safety/hygiene requirements).

• Physical demand is light.
• Standing and walking is frequent.
• Stretching up and reaching across is likely to be occasional if required at all. Bending squatting, crouching and kneeling is required occasionally for some roles. Twisting of the body or neck is not typically required.
• Contact with skin irritants or water is not generally required; protective clothing and/or equipment will be used if necessary.
• Lifting, carrying and pulling are not usually required unless taking samples for analysis.
• Repetitive movements with hands may be occasionally required in operating keyboard for report writing.
• Driving may be required if working across sites.
• Use of hand-held and power tools.
• Mental skills necessary include organisational, analytical, problem solving, computing/report writing, knowledge of relevant regulations/requirements and communication skills.

A New Zealand Register Level 5 or 6 qualification or at least three years relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 2). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.

There are opportunities for flexibility of movement but they are limited.
