Transfers a source text from one language into another, usually within an extended time frame to allow for corrections and modifications and without the presence of the participants requiring the translation.

Studies original texts and transcripts of recorded spoken material to comprehend subject matter and translates them into another language; renders the meaning and feeling of written material, such as literary, legal, technical and scientific texts, into another language in the appropriate register and style, so that it will read as an original piece rather than as a translation.

• Works indoors in offices, meeting rooms and other spaces.
• Works in adequately heated, lit, ventilated and clean, well maintained office workspaces.

• Sedentary physical demand.
• Sits and occasionally stands, walks and moves around to carry out translation services.
• Lifting, carrying or pulling is not a significant component of the job.
• Repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using a computer or writing.
• There is frequent use of hand-held objects, materials and equipment including foreign and specialist dictionaries, dictaphones, video recording and playback equipment, writing tools, computers telephones, reference books and on-line information.
• Driving is not a significant requirement.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with ability to translate and interpret from one language to another, listening, verbal and written communication, analysis, computing, research, report writing, organisational, problem solving and decision-making capabilities.

A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
