Assists physically, mentally, and socially disadvantaged people to reintegrate into work and the community.

Conducts counselling interviews with individuals, couples, and family groups; assists people in the understanding and adjustment of attitudes, expectations, and behaviour; presents alternative approaches and discusses potential for attitude and behavioural change; consults with clients to develop rehabilitation plans taking account of vocational and social needs; may work in a call centre.

• Predominantly works indoors in offices and consulting room environments within clinics, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, and public and private practices.
• Works in adequately heated, lit, ventilated, clean, well-maintained, and private workspaces.

• Sedentary physical demand.
• Sits to meet with clients or at computers when writing case-notes or reports.
• Occasionally stands, walks, and moves around the workspace.
• Lifting, carrying, or pulling is not a significant requirement.
• Occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using a computer for case-note or report writing and when hand-writing. Repetitive movements however, are not a significant component of the job.
• There is frequent use of hand-held objects and equipment including computers, telephones, writing tools, reference materials, and office machines such as printers, and scanners.
• Driving is not a significant component of the job but may be required if home/site visits are necessary.
• Skills and knowledge necessary include strong cognitive and counselling abilities, and sound verbal and written communication (including computer literacy), interpersonal, administration, assessment, research, information gathering, analysis and evaluation, case-note or report writing, organisational, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant bachelor degree or higher tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may also be required.
• Registration with an associated professional body may be required.
• Roles likely to involve home/site visits will require a Class 1 Driver Licence.
