Plans, develops, deploys, tests and optimises network and system services, taking responsibility for configuration management and overall operational readiness of network systems, especially environments with multiple operating systems and configurations, and provides troubleshooting and fault-finding services for network problems.

• Analyses, develops, interprets and evaluates complex system design and architecture specifications, data models and diagrams in the development, configuration and integration of computer systems; researches, analyses, evaluates and monitors network infrastructure to ensure networks are configured to operate at optimal performance; assesses and recommends improvements to network operations and integrated hardware, software, communications and operating systems.

• Works indoors in offices and commercial premises.
• Works in adequately lit, heated, ventilated and clean, well maintained workspaces.

• Sedentary to light physical demand.
• Frequently sits at computer workstations.
• Stands and walks around the office and the wider workspace to consult others, provide technical support and upgrade and install software.
• There is an occasional requirement for lifting, carrying or pulling, most likely within a light range.
• Bending, squatting, crouching stretching, twisting, and climbing are not a significant component of the job butmay be required occasionally when attending to some installation and upgrading work.
• Constant to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using hand tools and equipment including writing instruments, calculators and computers.
• Occasional driving of vehicles may be required to facilitate visits to clientsﾒ premises or satellite offices.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with analytical, computing, report writing, communication, interpersonal, planning, organisational, problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making capabilities anda working knowledge of network administration, software installation, repair tools and design.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement.
• May need to work outside usual work hours to attend to network failures.
