Designs, conducts, and evaluates midwifery and interdisciplinary research projects, and/or researches existing information and monitors for newly released information relating to aspects of midwifery, and promotes the implementation of best-practice research findings into clinical midwifery practice.

Promotes midwifery and interdisciplinary research projects; applies for budget funding and/or external grants; designs, conducts, and evaluates midwifery and interdisciplinary research projects; researches existing information and monitors for newly released information relating to given aspects of midwifery; disseminates research information; promotes utilisation of best-practice research findings in clinical midwifery practice, patient management, and organisation-wide functions such as safety, quality, and risk management; provides support and education for other midwives undertaking research.

• Works indoors in offices, technical libraries, records rooms, antenatal, delivery, and postnatal rooms, and administration areas, in public and private hospitals and training facilities.
• Works in adequately lit, heated, ventilated and clean, well-maintained workspaces.

• Sedentary to light physical demand level.
• Sits when in meetings or when carrying out research and report writing.
• Stands and walks frequently around the office and wider hospital premises and training facilities to promote research, its utilisation, and provide support and education to other midwives.
• There is an occasional requirement for lifting up to a light physical demand range.
• Repetitive hand and arm movements are required when using computers.
• There is frequent use of communication, technology, and administrative equipment and machines.
• Occasional driving of cars may be required to attend meetings and facilitate research and the promotion of new research findings. Driving is however not typically a significant component of the job.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with midwifery, research, information collation, administrative, planning, communication, interpersonal, organisational, budgeting, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances, particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
• A Class 1 Driver Licence may be required.
