Reiki is a hands-on healing modality that originated in Japan. A practitioner of reiki is said to channel universal life energy into the client through their hands, to activate the natural healing processes of the body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

Marketing therapy services; responding to enquiries; administering bookings; conducting consultations with clients; clarifying clients' medical histories; explaining the healing process; performing hands-on treatment by using and guiding universal life energy; keeping records of clients’ progress; requesting and processing payments; keeping routine business accounts; and performing basic sanitising tasks between client appointments.

• Works indoors generally in specialist clinics, community centres, and private practices.
• Works in adequately lit, heated, ventilated, and clean and well-maintained workspaces.

• Sedentary to light physical demand.
• Frequently stands and walks when examining clients and providing therapy.
• Lifting, stretching, and reaching may be occasionally required if using portable treatment tables and/or treating clients with significant physical injuries or disabilities.
• Repetitive hand and finger movements is a frequent component of this job, required when providing therapy.
• Contact with skin irritants is rare.
• Driving may be required but is not typically a significant component of the job.
• Skills and knowledge necessary include: excellent listening, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills; and some knowledge of human biology and the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.

Completion of a Reiki Level 2 or higher training course which would meet the minimum standards of Natural Health Practitioners of New Zealand (NHPNZ), or at least three years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
