Assesses patients to determine the nature of the disorder, illness, problem or need by questioning, examining and observing; develops and implements treatment plans using techniques and methods such as acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, massage, diet, exercise and breathing therapy; evaluates and documents patients' progress through treatment plans; provides dietary and lifestyle advice and guidelines; prescribes natural medicines, such as herbal, mineral and animal extracts, to stimulate the body's capacity for self-healing.

• Works indoors in community health centres, sports institutes, specialist clinics and out of their own homes.
• Works in adequately lit, heated, ventilated and clean and well maintained workspaces.

• Sedentary to light physical demand.
• Sits during consultations and when writing patient notes.
• Frequently stands and walks when administering therapy, examining patients, checking case notes and to gather equipment.
• Lifting, stretching and reaching is not a significant component of the job but may be required for some procedures or when undertaking physical examinations.
• Repetitive hand and finger movements are likely on an occasional to frequent basis because of the need to perform therapies such as massage and acupuncture.
• Contact with water and/or skin irritants is rare.
• Employees frequently use therapeutic tables, needles, heating and massage equipment, Chinese herbs, computers and general office equipment.
• Driving is not required.
• Mental skills necessary include medical, nervous system and musculoskeletal knowledge, diagnostic, communication, interpersonal, organisational, problem solving and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
• Registration or licensing may be required.
