• Assesses patients to determine the nature of the disorder, illness, problem or need by questioning, examining and observing; develops and implements treatment plans; evaluates and documents patients' progress through treatment plans; seeks to improve health and treat disease chiefly by assisting the body's innate capacity to recover from illness and injury. Naturopathic practice may include a broad array of different modalities, including manual therapy, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, herbalism, acupuncture, counselling, environmental medicine, aromatherapy, wholefoods, and so on.

• May work indoors in health food shops and medical and private practices.

• Works in adequately lit, heated, ventilated and clean and well maintained workspaces.

• Works with people who are often in pain or ill.

• Sedentary to light physical demand.

• Sits during consultations and when writing patient notes.

• Frequently stands and walks when administering therapy, examining patients, checking case notes and to gather equipment and medicines.

• Lifting, stretching and reaching may be required for some procedures or when undertaking physical examinations.

• Repetitive hand and finger movements are not typically a significant component of this job.

• Contact with water and/or skin irritants is rare.

• Driving is not typically a significant component of the job.

• Employees frequently use measuring equipment, natural medicines, magnifier and iris camera for iridology, computers and general office equipment.

• Mental skills necessary include medical, nervous system and musculoskeletal knowledge, diagnostic, communication, interpersonal, organisational, problem solving and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.

• Registration or licensing may be required.
