Assists health and community groups to improve the health of individuals and the community by raising awareness of healthy lifestyles, disease and disability, and other health-related issues.

• Develops communication objectives in relation to health issues; identifies the audience most at need or risk and establishes the most appropriate method to reach that audience; prepares publicity and or presentations on health issues; sets up displays on health issues; gives presentations to community groups on health issues to increase public awareness; writes material to assist in the promotion of health issues; undertakes research to make sure that data is correct and current; may work in conjunction with other organisations or government departments.

• Works indoors in schools, community centres, hospitals and other medical facilities. May also work at expos.

• Occasionally works outdoors when required and in a range of weather conditions.

• Indoor work areas are generally adequately heated and ventilated spaces. However when visiting community facilities conditions may vary.

• Physical demand is sedentary to light.

• Standing and walking is frequently required to facilitate visits to schools and community facilities as well as for giving presentations.

• Sitting is required at an office desk or computer for record-keeping, writing of reports and reviewing policy and latest health information.

• Stretching and reaching across is not likely to be a significant component.

• Bending is not likely to be a significant component of this job.

• Squatting, crouching and kneeling is not a significant component of this job.

• Twisting of the body or neck is not a significant component of this job.

• Contact with skin irritants or water is not a significant component of this job.

• Lifting, carrying and holding may be occasionally required but is not a significant requirement.

• Repetitive movements are likely to be necessary when using a keyboard and mouse and other general office equipment such as phones and calculators.

• Driving is likely to be required on an occasional to frequent basis.

• Use of equipment/materials will include copies of handouts on health related issues, power point presentations, computers, calculators, writing instruments, research data other general office equipment.

• Mental skills necessary include technical problem solving, interpretation, computing, organisational, environmental and health and safety knowledge, report writing, decision-making and communication.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some cases particular experience and/or on-job training may be needed.
