Develops and implements programmes and regulations for the protection of fish, wildlife and other natural resources.

• Evaluates habitat, wildlife and fisheries needs, and formulates short- and long-term management goals and objectives; enforces laws and regulations to conserve and protect fish and wildlife.

• Frequently works indoors in offices of the Department of Conservation or local authorities.
• Also frequently works outdoors and travels by vehicle, watercraft or foot to and through park and conservation areas. Work areas outdoors may be quite isolated.
• Works in adequately lit, heated, ventilated and clean, well maintained workspaceswhen indoors.
• Work outdoors may require the use of protective clothing and footwear and can bein all weather conditions.
• Terrain is likely to be rough.

• Sedentary to heavy physical demand.
• Frequently sits in offices, meetings or vehicles.
• Stands and walks frequently to carry out inspections of conservation areas, reserves and parks.
• Lifting, carrying or pulling may be occasionally required to transport equipment or supplies and carry packs to within medium to heavy physical demand.
• Occasional bending, squatting, crouching, stretching, twisting and climbing may be required for inspections.
• Repetitive hand and finger movements are unlikely with the exception of occasional requirements to use computer keyboards.
• Frequent driving of cars, 4WD or utility vehicles is required.
• Mental activities necessary include bushcraft, survival, animal handling, search and rescue, enforcement, record keeping, construction, pest control, communication, organisational, decision-making and problem solving capabilities.

• A level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree or higher qualification. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). A driverﾒs licence will be required.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement.
