Analyses and modifies new and existing engineering technologies and applies them in the testing and implementation of engineering projects.

• Analyses existing technology; makes recommendations on how to improve existing technologies; runs technology through testing procedures and notes findings; prepares drawings of new technologies.

• Frequent to constant work indoors in offices and engineering workshops.
• Works in adequately lit, heated, ventilated and clean, well maintained workspaces.However engineering workspaces may also be noisy and dirty.
• Protective safety clothing and equipment may be required on occasion.

• Sedentary to heavy physical demand.
• Frequently sits in offices or at computer workstations analysing data.
• Stands and walks frequently when conducting testing procedures or observing existing engineering technology.
• There may be an occasional requirement for lifting, carrying or pulling depending on the technology being analysed and/or tested.
• Occasional bending, squatting. Crouching, stretching or twisting may be required.
• Occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using drawing and writing instruments, calculators, computers and testing equipment.
• Driving may occasionally be required to visit engineering sites.
• Mental skills necessary include design, drawing, research, mathematical, analytical, technical, engineering, computing, communication, problem solving, and decision-making skills.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
• Registration may be required.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement.
