Performs and supervises engineering work concerned with the design, development, manufacture, maintenance and modification of aircraft for flight.

• Designs aircraft, componentry and support equipment; consults with aero-engine specialists to co-ordinate design of aircraft; carries out surveys of airframes and equipment and checks for structural faults using laboratory or flight conditions; ensures that aircraft are capable of meeting operational conditions by examining characteristics and evaluating flight tests.

• Frequent to constant work indoors in offices, workshops, hangars at private and public airports or air force bases and on-board aircraft.
• Occasionally works outdoors to inspect aircraft or to survey damage.
• Works in adequately lit, heated, ventilated and clean, well maintained indoor workspaces.However work spaces such as hangers may also be noisy and dirty.
• May work in all weathers.
• Protective safety clothing and equipment may be required on occasion.

• Sedentary to light physical demand. Frequently sits in offices or at computer workstations.
• Stands and walks occasionally in offices and other workspaces.
• There is an occasional requirement for lifting, carrying or pulling within sedentary range.
• Occasional bending, squatting or crouching and stretching, twisting, climbing isrequired when inspecting aircraft.
• Occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using hand-held objects and equipment including drawing and writing instruments, calculators and computers.
• Uses plans, aircraft manufacturerﾒs manuals and Civil Aviation Authority Regulations.
• Driving is not a significant component of the job.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with design, drawing, research, mathematical, analytical, technical, engineering, computing, communication, problem solving, and decision-making capabilitiesand specialist knowledge of aircraft structures and dynamics.

• A Bachelor of Engineering is needed (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
• Registration may be required.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement.
