Researches, designs, fabricates and oversees installation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Design, install and test HVAC systems and diagnose and remediate faults. In design phase communicate to understand requirements, goals, design specifications and evaluate cost, feasibility and implementation process; create and submit costings and timelines; conduct field surveys; calculate loads for air handling unit, pump, fan, pipe etc; understand and ensure compliance with codes and standards for construction and design; generate as-built drawings of existing systems; create drawings for approval and cost estimates; work with other engineers, project managers and construction professionals, as needed, to create and/or modify design parameters; develop and oversee all aspects of product selection (or manufacture) including clean room design, computer modelling, fabrication, testing and implementation of systems; analyse systems to find inefficiencies or malfunctions and create solutions to optimise performance; design testing procedures and control equipment to identify necessary modifications. During installation provide oversight; problem solve where necessary; inspect installation and issue certification.

• Frequently work indoors in offices/engineering workshops, as part of professional HVAC engineering consultant firms. Frequently travels to sites when overseeing installation.
• Works in adequately lit, heated, ventilated and clean, well maintained workspaces when conducting meetings, undertaking design, research and administrative work but, on site, there is likely to be no heating and ventilation.
• Undeveloped worksites may be noisy and dirty.

• Light to medium physical demand. Frequently sits in offices, in meetings or at computer work stations but also stands and walks frequently in offices and on-site where the terrain may be difficult/uneven.
• Occasional requirement for lifting, carrying or pulling to medium physical demand.
• Occasional to frequent bending, squatting or crouching and stretching, twisting, climbing may be required to inspect and/or complete installation or diagnostic work.
• Occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using hand tools, computers, drawing and writing instruments and other equipment.
• Uses safety clothing/equipment on-site.
• Occasional to frequent driving is likely to be necessary to visit sites and client offices.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with design, drawing, planning, analytical, HVAC engineering, computing, communication, interpersonal, organisational, problem solving, and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some cases particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
• Registration may be required.
