Assesses present and future travel flow patterns taking into account population increases and needs changes; designs the physical aspects of transportation systems such as highways, railroads, urban transit, air transportation, logistical supply systems and their terminals.

• Frequently works indoors in offices within local authorities or engineering consultancies.
• Frequently works outdoors to inspect sites and have discussions with clients/contractors. Works in all weathers on worksites otherwise, works in adequately lit, heated, ventilated and clean, well maintained workspaces.
• When on-site protective clothing including wet-weather gear and gumboots may be required.

• Sedentary to light physical demand.
• Frequently sits in offices, in meetings or at computer workstations.
• Stands and walks frequently in offices and on-site. On-site locations may involve negotiating difficult/uneven terrain.
• Lifting, carrying or pulling is not a significant component of the job.
• Bending, squatting, crouching, stretching, twisting and climbing are not a significant component of the job.
• Frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using surveying equipment and in the use of computers, calculators and cameras.
• Driving will be required to facilitate site visits and meetings.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with design, drawing, planning, engineering, computing, research, communication, interpersonal, organisational, problem solving, and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
• Registration may be required.
