Studies architectural and engineering drawings and specifications to estimate total costs, and prepare detailed cost plans and estimates as tools to assist in budgetary control; monitors changes to designs, assesses effects on cost, and measures, values and negotiates variations to designs.

• Works indoors in offices. Frequently works outdoors at construction sites to inspect work and have discussions with clients/contractors. Works in all but extreme weather conditions when outside.
• Indoor work areas are adequately lit, heated, ventilated and clean.

• Medium physical demand level.
• Frequently sits in offices, in meetings or at computer workstations.
• Stands and walks frequently in offices and on-site. On-site locations may involve negotiating difficult/uneven terrain.
• There is an occasional requirement for lifting, carrying or pulling within a medium physical demand range.
• Bending, squatting or crouching and stretching, twisting, climbing will occur occasionally when on-site.
• Protective clothing including hardhats, steel capped boots and wet-weather gear may be required when on-site.
• Frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using computers, calculators and cameras.
• Driving will be required to facilitate site visits and meetings.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with design, drawing, planning, engineering, computing, research, mathematical, communication, interpersonal, organisational, problem solving, and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
• Registration may be required.
