Performs a range of tasks to ensure airplane flights comply with national/international civil aviation rules and are safe and efficient.

Works within a team environment to produce accurate and timely flight plans for the technical crew; ensures compliance with civil aviation rules in different jurisdictions; ensures compliance and reporting in adverse situations such as volcano activity, tropical cyclones, and unanticipated runway closures; follows flight overwatch procedures and provide advice to crews of deteriorating weather conditions or other changes that affect flight safety; develop alternative routes and plans for contingencies; answer safety queries; liaise with flight operations, crewing, management, and refuellers.

• Works indoors at airports, air force bases, or other flight facilities. May enter aircraft.
• Occasionally works outdoors.
• Works in adequately well lit, heated, ventilated, and clean, well maintained workspaces. Conditions can be noisy due to engine noise and radio communication when working with helicopters or aeroplanes.

• Sedentary to light physical demand. Frequently sits at desks, in meetings, and when monitoring flights.
• Stands and walks occasionally.
• Lifting and carrying is not a significant component of the job.
• Bending, squatting or crouching is not a significant component of the job.
• Frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when operating computers and other communication devices.
• Driving may be required is not a significant component of the job.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with, interpreting, computing, communication, interpersonal, planning, organisational, problem solving, critical thinking, mathematical, and decision-making capabilities.

• A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
• Some roles may require specific aviation-related accreditations.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement.
• May work shifts, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
