Liaises and consults with program administrators and other interested parties to identify policy needs; reviews existing policies and legislation to identify anomalies and out-of-date provisions; researches social, economic and industrial trends, and client expectations of programs and services provided; formulates and analyses policy options, prepares briefing papers and recommendations for policy changes, and advises on preferred options; assesses impacts, financial implications, interactions with other programs and political and administrative feasibility of policies.

• Works indoors in offices and meeting rooms within governmental departments, local authorities and some commercial industries.
• Works in adequately heated, lit, ventilated and clean, well maintained offices.

• Sedentary physical demand.
• Frequent sitting at desks computers when analysing or interpreting data.
• Occasionally stands, walks and moves from office to office and within the organisation.
• Lifting, carrying or pulling is not a significant component of the job.
• Frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required to use a computer keyboard, calculator or when hand writing.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with verbal and written communication, research, data collection, mathematical, statistical, analytical, policy development and interpretation, project management, computing, presentation, planning, report writing, organisational, problem solving and decision-making capabilities.

A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
