Formulates mathematical models to simulate processes; applies models to experimental observations, and adjusts and recasts the models; uses numerical analysis methods to develop algorithms and perform computations; liaises with management and clients to determine the subject or area to be surveyed or examined; specifies the data to be collected, and the methodology to be used in collection and analysis; evaluates and describes the reliability and utility of source information; analyses and interprets data and produces relevant statistics to describe and infer particular trends and patterns.

• Works indoors typically in office environments. Occasionally works outdoors for field work during which travel is likely to be required.
• Works in adequately lit, heated, ventilated and clean, well maintained offices.

• This is a sedentary role involving frequent sitting in offices or at meetings.
• Employees occasionally stand and walk around the office and wider workspace in the process of collecting data.
• Lifting, carrying or pulling is not a significant feature of the job.
• Bending, squatting or crouching is not a significant feature of the job.
• Stretching, twisting, climbing is not a significant feature of the job.
• Frequent to constant repetitive hand and finger movements are required through the use of calculators, computers and writing.
• Driving is not a significant component of the job.
• Mental skills necessary include a high level of cognitive functioning with analytical, computing, report writing, communication, interpersonal, planning, organisational, problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making capabilities.

A relevant tertiary qualification or at least five years applicable experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 1). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.
