Operates as an independent agent to bring together buyers and sellers of commodities, negotiates private sales and arranges sales through established market places.

• Monitors commodity prices, trends and other factors affecting the supply and demand for commodities; negotiates the purchase and sale of commodities such as grains, wool, minerals and metals.

• Typically works indoors from an office base that is typically adequately heated and ventilated.
• May travel to meet potential clients in their own premises.

• Sedentary physical demand levels. Frequently sits at an office desk and studies both hard copy and on-line market information.
• Frequently meets with clients and provides advice on the relative strengths and risks of various deals.
• Standing and walking about the office will be occur occasionally.
• Stretching, twisting, climbing and lifting is not a significant component of the job.
• Occasional to frequent repetitive hand and finger movements are required when using pens, calculators, keyboard and mouse.
• Driving in cars is not a significant feature of the job but may be required occasionally.
• Use of hand-held objects will be frequent in the form of writing instruments, telephones, calculators and computers.
• Squatting, crouching or bending will be unnecessary for most situations.
• Mental skills necessary include interpretation, analytical, research, presentation, financial product knowledge, communication, negotiation, calculation, organisational and planning skills.

• A New Zealand Register Level 5 or 6 qualification or at least three years relevant experience (ANZSCO Skill Level 2). In some instances particular experience and/or on-the-job training may be required.

• There are opportunities for flexibility of movement.
